• Set over a compacted, drained base: mortar bed on concrete for fixed paving, or a compacted sand and fines bed for flexible paving.
• Puzzle fit flags with joints of roughly 10 to 25 mm; fill joints with mortar, polymeric sand, or planted fines per the design.
• Slope finished paving away from structures at approx 2 percent for drainage.
• Order 10 percent extra area for fitting and breakage.
• An exterior penetrating sealer is optional; avoid film forming coatings that get slick when wet.

Can it be laid without concrete?
Yes. Flags can be laid on a compacted sand and fines bed with planted or polymeric joints for a flexible garden path, or in mortar over concrete for driveways and high traffic paving.

Is the surface slippery?
The natural cleft face has real texture and drains well. For pool surrounds specify the joint fill and slope in the quote so the finished deck meets your slip requirements.
